Cricket has been a medal sport at the Asian Games since Guangzhou 2010, where it was played in the T20 format. It was included again in the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon. Bangladesh and Sri Lanka respectively won the Men competition, while Pakistan won the Women’s competition twice.
After missing out on the 2018 edition in Jakarta, cricket has returned once again to the Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou, China . The Women’s competition is already over, with India winning the gold medal and Sri Lanka winning the silver.

Out of all the teams that participated in the 2023 Asian Games cricket tournament, 5 teams made it directly to the quarterfinals. The 5 teams are Ruturaj Gaikwad-led India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka. The remaining three teams – Nepal, Hong Kong, and Malaysia – qualified through the group stage and advanced to the quarterfinals.
