Kagiso Rabada rewrites history books with 300th Test wicket in Dhaka

South African pace sensation Kagiso Rabada has carved his name into cricket’s history books, reaching the coveted 300-wicket milestone in Test cricket. The 29-year-old speedster achieved this remarkable feat during the opening Test against Bangladesh at Dhaka’s Shere Bangla National Stadium, showcasing his exceptional skill and unwavering dedication to the sport.

Rabada’s 300th scalp came in spectacular fashion as he clean bowled Mushfiqur Rahim with a devastating in-swinger that left the Bangladeshi batsman shell-shocked. This wicket propelled Rabada into an exclusive group of South African bowlers, joining the likes of Dale Steyn, Shaun Pollock, Makhaya Ntini, Allan Donald, and Morne Morkel. What sets Rabada apart is the speed at which he reached this milestone, accomplishing it in just 65 Tests with an impressive average of 21.99.

The Johannesburg-born pacer was in top form, making the most of the favourable morning conditions in Dhaka. His first wicket of the day was a prime example of his prowess, as he delivered a length ball that swung sharply inwards, shattering two stumps in the process. Rabada didn’t stop there, going on to claim the wickets of Litton Das and Nayeem Hasan, playing a crucial role in South Africa’s dominant bowling performance.

Rabada’s achievement goes beyond just reaching the 300-wicket mark. He set a new world record by becoming the fastest bowler to reach this milestone in terms of balls bowled. Rabada accomplished this feat in 11,817 balls, surpassing Pakistan’s Waqar Younis, who took 12,602 balls to reach the same landmark. This puts Rabada at the top of an illustrious list that includes Waqar Younis, Dale Steyn, Allan Donald, and Malcolm Marshall.

While Rabada’s performance was undoubtedly the highlight, it was part of a broader display of bowling excellence by the South African team. Wiaan Mulder set the tone with three early wickets, while Rabada and left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj maintained the pressure, making it a challenging day for the Bangladeshi batsmen.

Rabada’s 300-wicket milestone is a clear indicator of his status as one of the premier fast bowlers in contemporary cricket. His consistent high-quality performances have made him an integral part of the South African cricket team. This record-breaking achievement is a result of Rabada’s hard work, dedication, and passion for the game.
