Sarfaraz Khan delivers on his promise as Saba Karim shares inspiring tale

Bengaluru erupted in joy as Sarfaraz Khan notched his maiden international hundred in a Test match against New Zealand, showcasing his exceptional talent and years of hard work. This milestone marked a significant chapter in his cricketing journey, one that was fuelled by his unwavering commitment to succeed.

A Promise Fulfilled

Former Indian cricketer Saba Karim recently shared a touching anecdote about Sarfaraz’s determination. During the India-England Test series in Dharamsala, Karim encountered a disappointed Sarfaraz after he was dismissed in the fifties. Undeterred, the young player pledged to convert his next chance into a big score.

True to his word, Sarfaraz has now delivered on that promise, demonstrating his mental fortitude and determination. Karim recalled, “He told me, ‘if I get an opportunity, I will make it count.'” And count it did, as Sarfaraz’s century was a sight to behold.

A Masterclass in Batting

Sarfaraz’s inclusion in the Playing XI came as a surprise to many, initially part of the squad for the Bangladesh Test series but passed over for KL Rahul. However, an injury to Shubman Gill opened the door for Sarfaraz, who grabbed the chance with both hands.

Batting at No. 4, with Virat Kohli moving up to No. 3, Sarfaraz crafted a magnificent 150 off 195 balls. His innings was peppered with 13 fours and 3 sixes, leaving the New Zealand bowlers at a loss as he effortlessly combined grace and power in his stroke play.

Despite a setback in the first innings where he was dismissed for a duck, Sarfaraz bounced back strongly in the second innings. His century played a crucial role in bolstering India’s position and setting a competitive target for New Zealand.
